Sampling.

This is something I rarely do, but today Joanne was spinning some batts she'd created, test spun and then sampled before continuing; here's a picture of her sample and the steps she's now taking to recreate it in a rather larger amount
The knitted sample piece (nice and large to get an accurate impression)
The lovely batts which are a blend of dyed Merino and some grey Merino (also dyed) to make a heathery yarn
Being spun

The resulting singles
On the table there were a few items on display, I missed one pair of lovely purple skeins which left with their owner before I got the camera out, but the remainder are all lovely too.
Fingerless mitts

Janet's lovely chevron skirt, we've been watching this come along for some months.

2 skeins of yarn, left is Merino/Nylon on the right was I think Perendale and Romney hand-dyed.
Next week we're at St Marks in Withells Rd, see you there.

February Already!

Hard to believe it's already February, but it seems everyone's been busy over the last month.   The display table had a lot of items on it from children's cardigans to woven scarves and some lovely yarn plus of course adult items as well.     We had a good turnout with much spinning and knitting.

Without any further delay here's the photo's I took today, enjoy!

The overall view of the rather full table

Clockwise from bottom left.  Cardigan for a wee girl, art yarn from leftover bits, latest Vintage Purls sock club offering, Epsom shawl in Vintage Purls yarn, Jersey in Noro yarn, handspun

Detail of one of the two lovely handwoven scarves; beautiful work.

A better view of the Noro jersey, got to love those colour changes.

A lovely wee spencer cardigan in handspun, some unspun cashmere and the yarn Anne is planning on weaving with shortly
An action shot of Merino being spun on a Majacraft Suzie wheel

Same kind of wheel, fibre is natural colours and looking beautiful

Mary Catherine's new Hanson Mini Spinner

WIP from Fran, looking really nice and this is before blocking!

Action shot

Same fibre as above photo

Another action shot in natural grey on a Majacraft wheel
Same singles, but still, isn't the colour variation lovely?
Next week is at Opawa again, there will be a committee meeting so lets hope for another fine, if not quite so warm day so we can do that outside.   I'm sure there will be lots more lovely items to show you next week as well.    Have a great week everyone!
